It was supposed to be a trip to Kalinga province.

We often explore off the beaten places during the month of February (birthday month / birthday leave), but due to the current pandemic and the tourist spots being closed from visitors, we had to suddenly cancel our plans and immediately look for an alternative.

We have been eyeing some nearby places we can explore as well as airbnbs to stay and relax. Since our last visit to Subic, we had been struck by how peaceful and nature-filled the surroundings are. That is why this will be definitely included in our list.

Forest Nest (30)

Upon searching, we were glad that this AIRBNB was still available for booking when there’s only 3 days left before our chosen dates of stay.

We are not kidding. THIS IS A STEAL. Come check this out.

Ocean Nest Subic is one of the most instagram-worthy AIRBNBs in Subic Bay. It is located inside the freeport zone and just 5 minutes from SUBIC AIRPORT. This place is at the 3rd floor of an old residential building (expect neighbors), nearby convenience store and beautifully surrounded by subic rainforest which means you can definitely look forward to waking up with lovely sounds of birds chirping and leaves flowing by the wind.

This AIRBNB is owned by a couple (one is a musician and film director while the other is a cinematographer named “Tamara” – AIRBNB Superhost) who both love to surf and produce surf films. They created and designed The Nest by the Sea with the care for the environment in mind as well as the comfort and feel-at-home vibes for their guests.

Forest Nest (9)

The Nest by the Sea does not only have the Ocean Nest to offer but a lot more units with the same concept and arranged in so many aesthetic ways (REALLY WANT TO STAY IN ALL OF THEM). You can check out their Airbnb account or facebook page to see how they put so much effort in creating the other units (with bath tubs!) and have a peak at their future projects – both are provided below.

Upon confirmation of our booking, we were immediately instructed on what to do for our check in. We were already oriented that the unit is at the 3rd floor of an old building which we found fast without effort (you might get scared if you will be coming at night but believe us you will be surprised once you get inside the Nest).

As soon as we open the Ocean Nest’s door, agreed that we felt the homey vibe of the place. The lights were warm (in a good way) for the eyes which are perfect compliment for the white walls and wooden furnitures. Each unit has 2 doors, one in the living room and one in the bedroom which you can both open to get that fresh afternoon breeze while sipping some good coffee – avoid having food that can attract monkeys.

The Kitchen is so bright and simple yet complete with the necessities you’ll need during your stay. As they have said during our booking, the breakfast is on them! Cannot believe they provide so much. From eggs to bread, freshly ground coffee to milk, cereals to even bananas. And that PEANUT BUTTER? It is just perfect for those breads plus you can preorder if you want to bring some to your home.

The Dining area and Living Area are at the same place which are very convenient when you want to have your meal while binge watching your favorite Netflix shows (YES, they have Netflix and FREE WIFI so you can watch all you want!).

The Bedroom is big for 4 people. It has 2 double beds with fresh white sheets and a hammock for chilling. You can also put your things at the cabinets which can be locked for security. In here, you can also find some books to read and some board games to play with your friends or family (just make sure to place it back).

NOTE: The building has no elevator, so make sure you or your family can walk up to the 3rd floor before booking. No worries on bringing your car since the place has an open parking available (Free of charge).

Before you continue your drive to the Ocean Nest, inform the host on the possible time of your arrival. Take note that the check in time is at 2:00 PM and they do not allow early check ins and late check outs to give their helpers enough time to clean the unit.

No regrets on having our supposed trip cancelled (safety purposes) and booking our trip to Subic instead. We can really recommend the place for family or friends staycation or even for couples who just want to unwind during the weekends. Plus it is near nature, who would not love that? Stay here for at least 2 nights to make your trip more worth it. We would love to try and stay in their other lovely Nests of course! Maybe this time the one with an outdoor tub!

Good Job Nest by the Sea!

  1. Simple and cozy! I like the design pulling off a genuine probinsiya feels! My friends and I did the same too! We looked for an AIRBNB that can accommodate us during lockdown and we were able to find a place with a pool!

  2. The room setup looks nice and cozy. I like the wooden touches of the interior. I’m just a little bothered by the monkeys that you mentioned. But other than that, the place looks very relaxing πŸ™‚

  3. Wow i love the kitchen!!! And I don’t think i’ve encountered an Airbnb before that offer FREE breakfast! That’s so nice of them! ❀️ The price is also just right for all these nice amenities you can enjoy! Will definitely keep this one in mind. Soon pag safe na ulit! πŸ₯°

  5. This was also an idea of mine. Since we can’t have any sort for vacation or travel plans for the summer. Might as well just staycation with friends or family right? I suuuuper love the vibe of that place, totally imagining myself enjoying it there.
